I cannot get my rotor/bearings back on the spindle, why??
after putting in new bearings(thanks to all those who helped me get the old ones out), i cannot get them to slide over the spindle. The old bearing wont even go over the spindle, I do not remember them being this tough when i had to replace my ball joints. What am i doing wrong here? The old bearing is the same size as the new one, the bearing is going on in the correct direction, and i put grease on the spindle as well. Anyone else ever run into this problem?? It's almost embarrasing how much trouble i'm running into trying to do a seemingly simple DIY job. thanks in advance
Ryan

Hmmm. Tough one without being able to look at it. Maybe the spindle has some dents in it. That will raise the metal a bit and stop a close fitting mating part from sliding on. Check that. If you find something, carefully use a fine-tooth file and lap it down smooth. Key word is "carefully". Make sure to completely clean off all the metal filings afterwards.
Anyone else?

Borrow a venier caliper and measure the inside of the bearing and the outside of the spindle. Maybe you have the wrong bearing by only a few thousanths of an inch.

My dad was able to figure it out. There always seems to be somethign that he knows or he can figure out. After i'd called it quits and said i wanted to drive the car into a lake, i got a call on my cell phone saying he got it. Thanks to all for your help, i still can't beleive how much difficulty i went through for this simple job....... thanks again,
Ryan

Ryan:
You have to grease the lip on the new seal slightly to get it to "pop" over the edge of the spindle were it runs. Can be very frustrating with a tight seal. Bet it drives better now, though! Peter
