Bill Makemson (TXBill) makes Mercedes Enthusiast Mag

Congrats Bill. Your letter to Mercedes Enthusiast (MercedesEnthusiast.co.uk) was printed on page 17/18 "Nothing but Diesel"

You're famous!

I might have gotten mine before it hit the newstands ((Jan 2003) - I got myself a subscription for Christmas.

Ps - The 01 CLK55 has a new stablemate. A 1984 300SD w/ 180K. It was my mom's - I wouldn't let her sell it!

Bill,
Man, I've written SO MANY letters to the editors of various magazines and newspapers complaining about that stinky diesel exhaust, but they never print them! You must be really elated!! It's about time they do something about the soot those things put out!!

Gotcha, I hope.
Disclaimer: the above is facetious sarcasm, in case anybody is not sure.

You DO need to post it here, for even us gas burners to read! Seriously, congrats to you.

-Tom

Okay, here's Bill's Letter to the Editor (as published)

NOTHING BUT DIESEL

Dear Sir

First of all I want to say I am a big fan of your new magazine! What a breath of fresh air compared to the Star we have Stateside!

I also wanted to thank you for the article in your October issue titled 'Yankee Diesel Dandy'. The M-B diesels have attained cult car status here for their durability and ease of repair and maintenance. I own several diesels now, and I've owned a total of 10 of them since 1997.

As long as the old Mercedes diesels are available, I won't ever drive anything else.

Bill Makemson, Houston, Texas

nice magazine>interesting

from another reader; congratulations, Bill! excellent magazine>during my daily adventures as a tech in downtown Boston, i frequent the large Borders store> in winter especially, i wind up in there while dodging those pesky meter maids. anyway, i saw the article and sure enough, when i got home and double checked the spelling...lo and behold, one and the same! is this a small world or what? there was also a mention of Alex Dearborn concerning 300sl gullwings in the same issue. Mr. Dearborn is one of the PREEMINENT sp? authorities of old Mercedes Benz automobiles in the world and is located here north of Boston> Tx Bill, what happened to your sisters td?

thanx for the response.

if i recall correctly, didn't you get an early 70's /8 body with a diesel for a neice or young relative. a 220d perhaps? by the way, when i was doing the big hunt for my 300d, i REALLY wanted a wagon! however, after looking for a few months and checking out many sedans, i "settled" for my slightly distressed "black bomber"{not an old 450 Honda}. hope that the work situation is doing better with the new year.

Barnes and Nobles

Barnes and Nobles carries it at least in Dallas - the location I was picking up my issues at before I subscribed was at Beltline & Preston

regarding what i know...

please refer to my original post concerning NEgtg on page 6 or so. for the past 6 months i have been eyeballing a 1971 220 gas automatic....only a little more pep than a 220d/8.....the body is almost excellent (a nice polish perhaps)...ain't no darn stinky one o' them oil burnin' type rides tho'...maybe for my fiance, even tho she REALLY wants to locate a RUSTFREE 300td, as i do! until she burns the transmission in the continental or overheats the 3.8...or has to swap another air ride component (makes me wish for a FAST 300SEL 6.3!)...anyway, best wishes always...spo
