Back up light switch - 1979 300SD

I used to be able to activate the back up lights on my 1979 300SD by jiggling the shifter handle, now they don't work at all. I assume that there is a switch that needs to be adjusted or replaced, but I can't find it. Does anyone know where the switch is?

backup light and starter lockout switch is located on the drivers side of the tranny just below the shifter.you will see a cable and plug there.try cleaning the connections first

Might also take a look at the shift rod bushings. I'd imagine that after 24+ years they might need replacement.

OK, so to demonstrate just how clueless I am, I have to ask - Do I get to the switch from below the car? Or from inside the car?

Thank you.
