98 E300 Bose

I know, I know - no highs, no lows, must be Bose. However, my Bose is pumping a bit louder these days. I discovered my doors had no tweeters in them. According to factory sticker the car came with 8 speaker premium bose. ( without tweets, i only counted 6). So I had tweets installed at the dealer ( no other mods ). Anybody know if they have to mod the radio or the amp to do this????
I'd swear it sounds more powerful overall, not just high range.

Freq filter

Perhaps they put a freq filter on the door speaker to take away the high freqs, and a filter on the tweeter lead to only allow high freqs to it. All done with caps of various sizes if I recall correctly.

This way the door speaker acts more like a woofer and being close to your body provides the good vibes of a louder sound.

BTW did they do this probono or did you have to cherio up with the greens! as they had shortchanged you and perhaps many others.

How did you discover missing speaker? Is there an easy way to determine this?

I am also disappointed by the Bose in mine. I recall riding in a 98 E300 once with an Alpine system which sounded fantastic.

- still in negotiation regarding paying for those tweets.

- as far as checking for them, just crank your favorite radio station/CD, open the door and get out and plant your ear to the small grill opposite your exterior rear view mirrors. if they are there, you will hear them.

Just did a search and came up with this explanation from a post long ago. Seems there were 8 speakers (or 6 depending on how you count ) see post:
E430 8 Speakers or what..
There is no speakers in the front door pillar if you have the Bose system. But as long as you are negotiating with the clueless MB dealer, may be you can offer a compromise, hehe

tweets

The tweets are in and they definitely help "lift" the sound up into the cabin. I guess I really lucked out with my dealer, I did not have to pay for those. It is incredible to me that the "upgraded" Bose did not come with them. I read the linked post above and see the explanation of the two front door speakers counting as 4? Amazing......

In my '97 E300, there are 3.5" speakers in the dash but I don't hear sound from them... Any ideas? I have the upgraded Bose stereo system, well at least it says "Bose" on the rear deck subwoofer grilles :-)

The speakers in the dash are for the phone, not the stereo.

Any simple method to tie them into the sound system? I have a Pioneer installed and wouldn't mind tying them into my front outputs off the radio
