Greetings---I am not trying to start another "oil thread" but am having a heck of a time trying to find a diesel rated 20w-50w oil. Any suggestions would be appreciated

That 15W-40 is a better weight of oil to run, 20W-50 seems a little to thick. A 5W-40 would probally be even better for the winter...

10W-30
Found 10-W30 Texaco "Ursa" diesel oil. Used extensively in Europe, manufactured especially for diesels. 4.99 for a gallon aint bad either.

Today Mercedes-Benz recommends 0w-40 for ALL vehicles and they explicitly state that the current chart (which also lists 0w-30, 5w-40) supercedes ALL other viscosity charts. There is NO good reason to run 20w-50. Your owners manual was printed a LONG time ago when Castrol GTX had a Cx rating along with the Sx rating. That changed in the early 90's when it became difficult to meet the increasingly stringent Sx ratings as well as the Cx ratings - for a MINERAL oil. Today's off the shefl synthetics still meet the CF and Sx ratings - such as Valvoline SynPower 20w-50 or Castrol Syntec 20w-50. IF you don't want to go the synthetic route, Chevron Delo 15w-40, Mobil Delvac 1300S 15w-40 are two of the best choices.

Thanks for the info....looks like I'll stick to the ole faithful Delo 15-40---it is good stuff. Just trying to cut some of the seeping of oil down a bit. I run all my diesels on that.

Elliott, That Delo 400 is available in straight 40 wt... that is what I run in tractors and MB's with lots of miles on them....

The straight 40w would cause "seeping" to lessen as opposed to the 15-40 that I have always used--do you think?
