So many tools and so little time...

Or is it Money...

I had a thought while going through some of the posts here the other day which was to start a tool "repository" whereby members could check them out for nominal fees and use them.
It would require development of a fairly simpole form of contract and then using a merchant account for getting CC authorizations in case a tool does not get returned.

Anyone interested in exploring this idae let me know. If there is enough interest maybe we can try to set this up with a small initial investment. I mean a good compression tester for Diesels would be nice, but then again I would only use it about once every three years.

Fisherman,

That would be a good idea. The way you could get around the no return problem is to require a deposit equal to the value of the tool so if not returned, you just buy a new one.

You should make a reasonable profit for your services, at least enough to pay for the cost of the tools.

Actually PE I was thinking of a non-profit kind of scenario for the members of the forum.
Wouldn't be that big of a deal and as long as not too many guys needed the same tools at the same time it could work. Pooling resources to "buy-in" or have folks "donate" their tools for credit could make it a pretty decent deal for everyone involved.

TxBill,
What do you think about doing a poll with a sticky on this topic?
