1983 300SD transmission

300K miles on my 300SD. My transmission works normally in reverse. If I put the shift lever in Low gear position I have nothing. If I put it in drive or 3 position and give throttle, after several seconds it gradually and reluctantly begins forward motion. Tranmission has never been great but for as long as I've had the car (30K miles) it has performed the same -- sharp shifts in gears one and 2 some flare at times in 3 and 4. This problem came on suddenly one time when I started the car and it would't go. Could this be the B2 piston?

Sounds like the tranny is kinda getting tired. I would start by changing the fluid/filter and at the very least check the fluid level.

Having same problem right now, but I changed the filter, the fluid and the vac. modulator... but still trying to adjust that.
