Hello everyone!
I've been reading this forum for quite some time yet have never posted a message. This largely due to the vast amount of great information available to satisfy my curiosities and answer my technical questions. All members seem to be laid back, patient and supportive.
I'd like to thank everyone for posting great tips and advice. I'm slowly but surely restoring dignity to my '84 300sd. The car was previously owned by my father-in-law who passed away. The car sat for three years until my wife and I were motivated to not let this car go to waste. It has 202,000 on the odo and runs like a champ. I just recently replaced: upper control arms, lower ball joints, wheel bearings, disks and pads, tie rods and idler arm repair. The car feels ten times more solid to drive. Yet to come: track rod joint, konis, rear axle half shafts. Once again, thanks for everyone's help. |

Welcome aboard.
You will be surprised at how easy it is to change the rear 1/2 shafts.

Welcome. As you have undoubtably discovered, these are pretty easy cars to work on and a moderately skilled do-it-youselfer can save lots of money. It's very rewarding to keep these great old cars running. Hope you enjoy it.

Welcome
hotskillet,
the shocks are easy, you can use the search feature to find some tips. The rear axle shafts are not difficult but one needs to be deliberate and methodicale.,check the brake pads and rotors while you are there along with all the other 'stuff'. By reading the tips you can get 'set up' to do these things in timely fashion. thebern
