I'm just trying to help him out / give him an idea where it is. I have been trying not to post for a while just because I don't want to see some comment like this. BTW, I do speak 6 languages...at least two of them use alphabet. Education: BS EE, MS Computer Science

The deal is that if they guy typed it into Mapquest it would likely not give him the correct area....
The real question is why it is such a big deal to you for me to post the correct spelling.... Are you this touchy to correction in each of the six languages which you speak ? It is likely that you do not speak Texan.... there are very funny books devoted to making fun of how we pronounce words down here . I am a native Texan so I can make fun of it without getting into trouble... |

Gilly is right. The tools are NOT expensive. IMPCO used to have the best price on the pin wrench ($49?) and Baum Tools has the best deal on the puller (slide hammer adapter, $39?). I bought both for my cylinder head job and they were well worth it - required massive beating with the slide hammer to get them out of the head. I have 3 cars that these tools will work on so I considered it worth the investment.
As to building them: How much is your time worth? If you spend 5+ hours researching, calling around, finding stuff that may work, building prototypes, and experimenting, wouldn't it have been easier to just spend 30 minutes ordering the stupid tool for $50? I guess if you have LOTS of free time, or simply can't afford the tool, it would make more sense. You could always re-sell the tool here or on eBay and get 75% of your money back out of it, almost like a cheap rental. Regards, Last edited by gsxr; 01-28-2003 at 08:35 PM. |

gsxr, One of the tools which I really want to make is the screw type precombustion chamber puller. I have only seen it for $325.... plus you need the nut tool also....
You may not be one of those persons that makes stuff out of metal , or wood or whatever for the pure satisfaction of using your hands... that is fine.. but when one can combine an interest with a need it just seems silly not to do it... And if I can get a good prototype I do plan on selling them to people who can not afford the ones from the big boys.... If one has the correct tools... and maybe an eye towards jig making or production techniques it may not take near the time which you assume to make some of these tools ... they are not rocket science... but do require careful execution to work well... |
