-20 degrees about 15 years ago in my '75 300D. It took a few glow plug cycles and some cranking. But it finally got going. Used the block heater after that. Didn't care that the extension cord ran down 3 flights of stairs at my apartment.

My '80 240D started last week at 0 deg.

12 Degrees. It took 3 tries and some prayers on 01/23/03. That is as cold as it has gotten here since I bought the car in Nov. 2001.

My glow plugs were inoperative and it took about 30-40 seconds of cranking, but it started in 15 degrees. Now i'm plugging in at night and if the car is in the garage for an extended period.

The coldest I can remember was with my '77 240D, you know, serial glow plugs. It was 9 degrees Fahrenheit and lit off after the light went out. This was when the car was old, tired and using oil.

Just lucky I guess.

My $0,02,
