Would you touch it?

83 240D w/ auto box.
Pulls right when driving. Not sharply, but it does pull.
Small fuel leak from the filter to the injectors. Dealer promises fix.
Slight valve chatter that I consider above normal, even for a diesel when accellerating.
Vehicle surges forward slightly if you press the accellerator in Park or Neutral.

Would you touch it?

..... buying from used car dealer, huh?

These guys are masters of deception. See if he will give you the keys for one hour solo test drive..... then take it to your most trusted repair shop where you have made appointment for car appraisal.

I passed on it. I was awful tempted because it's got 80K miles on it, and he wants $2700 for the rig. The thing is I don't want to do that much maint. on it.
Pulls right was probably just an alignment thing, but who knows.. it could have been wrecked.
I'm also not crazy about paying for the insp. Normally I would be happy to, but not with that much obvious.

Also, is it normal for these cars to make 12.13V when running? My gasoline cars all make at least 13.5 and most make 14.4.

Alternator for that era with Bosch voltage regulator (Bosch sets them conservatively; no 14.4 v. for that era) should be around 13.7 -14.1 volts at ~2000 rpms. 12.13 v. would indicate a no charge situation (bad regulator/brushes/alternator), since a good battery standing alone puts out ~12.6 v.

Well, I think the problem with the tranny is what really turned me off. I haven't found anyone yet claiming thats fixable short of pulling it from the car.
