Turn Key And No Starter
I have a problem that has me. I turn the key and the starter clicks
like it is engaging but not transferring the power to the starter motor. I replaced the starter this weekend with a rebuilt one. I left on a 700 mile trip and this afternoon it did the same thing. I turn the key about 20 or 30 times (who's counting) and then it works. It seems to be worse when it is cold. 20 where I am. Car starts great for a diesel in cold weather not pluged in. I also got 21.5 mpg and averaged 78mph. not bad for an SD with 260000. Guess I got better on the last vavle adjustment . Thanks Alan

Make sure the battery cable connection on the starter is good, too -- if it is corroded or loose, you will have current to the solenoid but not the starter winding. This happened on the Volvo, and I was ready to replace the starter when I found the nut already loose -- cleaned it up and off it went!
It will be worse cold, since the nut will be looser..... Peter
