Blue Smoke on Start.

Starts ok. Blue smoke. Clears a bit at higher rpms. Misses slightly in lower rpms. Loss of power. Seems like fuel distribution problem. Has new injectors.

Blue smoke is oil being burned in the combustion chambers. Does it smoke like this all the time or only on startup?

I'm sorry....it is white smoke and it is just at starting, but clears out in running. If you slow down, it comes back a bit but not as bad.

If this was gasoline engine i'd say.... valve seals, where oil seeps into combustion chamber when engine is stopped - then burns off while starting. Takin foot off gas pedal might pull oil into chambers too through bad oil seals.

Otherwise, my '79 240D 112k does the same thing at starting..... especially visible in cold weather - makin me think its unburnt diesel fuel.

Am new to owning diesels, interested in what the forum thinks.

Some greyish smoke after a cold start is normal. I've seen many MB diesels and I have yet to see one that doesn't smoke after a cold start. However, a good running diesel should barely smoke at idle or while cruising once it warms up, but again some black smoke during acceleration is normal. In my case valve adjustment greatly reduced smoke during high loads, such as going uphill on the freeway.
