"I'm not sure what happens if you drive in from another state with studs and get caught."
You get a ticket. I once got tagged driving from Vermont to New York with studded tires. Connecticut at the time didn't allow them past April 1 and it was 2-3 weeks past that. (The big gag in VT. was that you could always tell out of staters because they took their snowtires off in April). The Trooper told me that if I got stopped again I could show another Trooper the ticket and they wouldn't issue a second one as long as it wasn't more than a few days after the first ticket. He commented that it was hard not to get caught because of the sound studs make on dry pavement.

I think that's just wrong. If you have legal window tint in YOUR state, and are driving through a state with more stringent laws where your tint is illegal, the cops won't ticket you. So why should it apply to tires? Stupid...

Thats BS. They cannot ticket you for a violation that is legal in your home state. Been through this with lifted trucks, tint, exhaust, etc. They can write the ticket and it will get tossed out of court. That or tear it up in front of 'em if you are brave enough!! RT

I absolutely agree. This was a few years ago so maybe they are better now. I also had the misfortune of running into a hard nosed Trooper. My guess is that others would have let me go.
