Looks like a decent car at a great price.. too bad it doesn't have a title.

That's odd that they're presenting it as a parts car...I thuoght that if a vehicle didn't have a title, that you could get a salvage title or something like that on it...

Quite nice car!! If only the cylinder head was cast iron...

So THAT'S what a trap oxidizer looks like. Wow.

Would someone try to sell a stolen car on EBay?

Smells fishy to me. I wonder what a Carfax report would look like on this one.

The car apprears to have been abused.

Some observations:

1- There is damage to the right rear fender and above the door. The seller purposely did NOT post any photo that shows this section.

2- The right rear wheel looks tweaked, like it slid into a curb and bent the subframe?

3- Right rear window is smashed out - glass on floor

4- Car has current CA plates & tags - so where's the title?

5- The speedometer is from a 300E, as the 1987 300D speedos only go to 140mph

6- The seller's "other auctions" include a W124 instrument cluster from a 300E, missing... you guessed it, the speedometer!

7- This whole auction reeks of dishonesty, I wouldn't touch it with an eleven foot pole... don't need cops showing up at my door after purchase, taking the car, and leaving me $1200 in the hole (plus transport costs!)

Be careful out there...

Here's the VIN, I think, if anyone has a Carfax account. This VIN shows up in the EPC as a black/black 1987 300D so I think it's correct:

Window broken, black on black, ugly interior touches, do drug dealers drive diesels? You'd think they'd want a faster getaway car.

Where in the EPC do the color codes show up? Is there a page that actually tells you what each code means?

From the main page, with the "WDB" at the bottom left, enter the rest of the VIN. Then select "Data Card" from one of the top menu pulldowns. It will show paint and interior color codes. An interior color code of 1xx is MB Tex, 2xx is leather. It also shows all the option codes. You can decipher all the code from this URL:

Is there a frame missing? I don't see where to enter the VIN.

Sixto:

Hehe, on that webpage there isn't a place to enter the VIN, but if you have the amazing EPC, you can see your car's datacard (actually, any MB datacard, provided you have the VIN) and in conjunction with that webpage, decode the card. Of course, you'll also be able to enjoy the other lovely features of the EPC. Psst... if you want one, msg me and I can help

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The web site only decodes the 3-digit numbers for paint, interior, and special options. To get those from a VIN you need the EPC as Speedy posted above.

The EPC & datacard function is a lifesaver when buying interior parts from salvage yards. I was trying to find Palomino sun visors for my 124 and after getting 2 different shipments of cream (d'oh!), I started asking for VIN's before ordering. Sure enough, the next 5 or 6 "tan" visors turned out to be cream! At least I found out via phone before giving them money. Oh, btw, I now have an extra set of 124/201 Palomino sun visors for sale if anyone wants 'em... plus a few extras for parts!

Regards,

Does the data card have more info than is on the build plate on the radiator frame?

Yes, the data card has lots more info. It also includes all special order options and all other equipment, even standard equipment because although it was standard on USA cars, it is optional at the factory (if you get what I mean... Europe can get stripped models.)

I thought the only year this body style was available in the 80's as a diesel was 1987...someone correct me if I am wrong here

in any case..the car seems very worn to me....and not very original....but for that price it might be very good for parts
