NYC Diesel inspection

I just got my first Mercedes --'82 300D.
So far, it is a joy.

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic/NYS inspection staion to me?

Also, the car lurches forward as it shifts from 1st to 2nd. Any advice about how to address that?

Thanks,

Joe

hey welcome joe -
not being from ny i cannot help you on the inspection.

re 1-2 shift - this notorious hard shift is well covered here in a lot of threads. so do a search on trans, vacuum, modulator, hard shifts etc and you will find a wealth of info on the subject.
how many miles on your 300d?

Just turned 150K. Other than the hard-shift. it seems to be running great.
thanks for the info.

Best,

Joe

150k - only a baby!
you could also try searching 'bowden cable' - this controls when the trans shifts.

the best link to look at in the meantime is:

http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ic/ic20242.htm

this will give you complete overview of the trans.

good luck/bob

If your in queens try the Little Garage.
They are a little pricey, but do an excellent job.
They are in woodside queens off the queens blvd
The mgr matthew meng, good guy very knowledgable
They do a lot of work on bmw's

vacuum line

sounds like a vaccum line has come undone or is leaking

on my 2.5 300 turbos there are two lines right above the radiator that can be jarred loose...
