Valve Adjustment => Nicer idle?
I recently had my 300CD's valves adjusted, timing chain checked, and valve cover gasket replaced.
The result, I immediately noticed that the car sounds nicer at idle. It's quieter and sounds a lot nicer! Sure it still has that diesel idle (vibration). However it doesn't sound as metallic as it used to be. Power wise I don't know. I just let her rip on the interstate and it is also smoother at the higher revs. I really like the sound of the OM617 when floored. Oh well I thought I'd share. G'nite

Nice job.
Should take 500 miles or so for the new adjustment to 'seat' in there. I notice that mine get better after a week or two of driving. I have the '85 D in the same color. Sweet Don

I noticed similar improvements also. The engine sounded more alive and even at idle. The biggest difference is that before I had the valves adjusted, the car had no power without additives in the fuel. Now additives make no difference whatsoever except that they seem to cause MORE smoke out of the tailpipe. I stopped using them for now. Red line and or Power Service additives anyway.

I have mine done every 10K to 15K, if anything the idle is a little stronger... That metallic noise might have been "nailing."
