Love the color. Do you think that is an MB factory color? I had my 81 painted last year. Color was factory pack. Very close to this one, but not quite as dark. I think I like this one better.

Thanks Bill. I didn't know that the 79's had the sunroofs. I thought it was rare in the 116 diesels.

I wish I was finished getting my Master's degree, and could afford it.

I loved the rust bucket 116 I drove over here in Hawaii. It was FAST!

I just get a good vibe about this car and seller for no good reason really just a feeling...I bet it's a good one.

Actually most of them DID have sunroofs, particularly in the US, where they were VERY popular...It's uncommon to see one without, and if you do, it's probably an '80, like Bill said.

The reason for that (well, this is the story I heard from an MB mechanic/116 enthusiast, anyway) was that the factory wanted to use up their existing stock of 116 bodies that didn't have the sunroof hole...Apparently there was a surplus of these since they were usually ordered WITH a sunroof, and they were phasing out the 116-chassis that year, in favor of the 126 in '81. I've never tried to verify that story, but it's an interesting and logical explanation for why very few 1980 116s had sunroofs...

Mike
