Unfortunately, real life "work" is getting real busy here lately so JimSmith was added to the moderator forum after he graciously accepted the offer.

He brings experience with the "new" MB diesels aboard.

I have to tell you......in meeting Jim at NJ diesel meets, he is just as nice and knowledgable guy in person as he is on the site.

During my early MB ownership motor mount trauma, he even spent some time with me on the phone to sort out my dilemma.

Good guy, smart guy.....the world needs more like him

Congrats

JCD

Nope, you're thinking of Jimmy Dean singing "Big John";
"Kinda wide at the shoulders and narrow at the hip, and everybody knew you didn't give no lip to Big John....."

Gilly, So you're figuring I am losing a few cells here and there....If I said it correctly it did not apply to Jim.... and was not funny.... if I had to explain to youngsters the correct lyrics... so I chose to paraphrase and place the smiley face after it to indicate something was technically wrong.... but get the point that no one in their right mind would 'give lip' to Big Jim....

Oh, OK. I thought you got the song title confused with the singer.

Thanks for the welcome as moderator. It is really the long standard of a well run forum that attracts great members and makes moderating appear like it will be well worth the effort to maintain the standard. When I first found the site I was hooked by the open sharing of relevant experience regarding these Diesels and the basic friendliness TXBill established for getting points across.

While the group is full of people who are in love with their Diesel automobiles, the world isn't and it is hard to find someone "in person" with a bit of experience to share when you need it. I hope I can help keep the site attractive to all members as was done by Jim and TXBill. Thanks again for the welcome, Jim

Welcome Jim. Great to have you here. I'm looking forward to your wealth of knowledge.

Since I own 2 older diesels, I'm sure I will be pickin' your brain every now and then.

Leathermag, The song you're thinking of is a Jim Croce song, "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" .

Rick, THAT Jim was a pool hall tough... which I would never associate OUR loving JIM with... the song was correctly identified by Gilly,,, They did not give him lip out of respect...." for holding the timbers while the other miners got out...." they never reopended that worthless pit... they just placed a marble stand in front of it.......

He didn't save the miners til later in the song. The reason they didn't give him no lip is because he "was a giant of a man", and also it was reported that "a crashing blow from his huge right hand had sent a Louisiana fella to the Promised Land".
There was also a follow up song by I believe Jimmy Dean called "Cajun Queen" but wasn't as memorable.
BTW to all the folks reading this NOT into country "classics" such as this, Jimmy Dean is NOT James Dean. Jimmy Dean really made his fortune on breakfast pork products that bear his name, not music.

Gilly
