99 diesel misses 30seconds after starting???

Any ideas,

I'll check the glowplugs this week, but does anybody know how long the glowplugs stay on a W210 OM606??

What else with a 15F start. Dealer has been zero help- "sorry we cannot duplicate that in our shop". Car is still Starmarked.

I've a similar symptom on my 85 300td. Starts right up, runs fine for about 20-30 seconds. Then it hiccups. It's jsut a small hiccup but you can tell it is there. This lasts for about 30-45 seconds, then it smooths out. I replaced the glow plugs and it made little difference. It's not a big problem but I would like to understand what is happening.

Glowplugs on the OM606 turbo typically last about three years before one (or more) burn out. If the car starts right up and idles smoothly, then begins to miss, it ain't glow plugs. A bad plug will cause an immediate miss and some smoke that will clear up within 10 seconds or so.

Look for air in the fuel lines. Another known problem area on the 606 engine is the o-rings on the fuel lines fail, permitting air to be drawn into the lines. Start the engine and pop the hood. Examine the clear plastic fuel lines running to/from the fuel filter - there are three or four of them. If you see nothing, that's great. If you see air bubbles zipping to and fro, there's your problem.

Good luck,

- Jim

The experience of several people I've been in contact with is that they last about 35-40 thousand miles. Mine were all replaced at 35K and again at 76K. The only indication both times was the miss upon startup. The indicator light and the dash info panel never said anything was wrong. The miss cleared up and the engine ran fine once the offending cylinder got hot enough to fire on its own.
