IP leak

fix one leak, another one springs!

I've got diesel leaking at the IP line to the #1 cylinder. Its coming from the bottom of that 2 inch hollow connector that has the spring and valve in it. Its tight. as tight as I can get it. still no good; its weeping up fairly quickly. Can I use silicone tape or gasket maker on it?

there are washers at the bottom of that

I believe that there are softish copper washers at the bottom of the "valve" that you describe. I would consider replacing this $1 part and retightening to spec. You can clean out the valve needle at the same time.

Make sure not to loose the spring, or anything else!

Don't use any sealers.... Alec is correct... don't know what substance they are made out of but a clean compressible washer is what is needed...not sealers....

The Haynes manual calls it a " Sealing Ring"..... Phil will know it...

Everyone should have a Performance parts catalog just for the fine line drawings of parts... no matter where you order from I have found it helpful for determining if you have the right parts and their names....

performance probably has it, but

Performance probably has it on a picture in the catalog, but this may be one time it is easiest and cheapest just to get it at the dealer.

Then again, for 30 minutes to drive there, 10 minutes to wait in line and 30 minutes back home, multiplied by two if they don't have it in stock (which they probably won't).....

maybe Phil is the best choice.

Phil doesnt carry that kind of hardware and the dealership is nearly 2 hours away. Can I juat go to a hardware store and get a copper washer of the same size as the bottom of the bolt and try it?

I tried the hardware store , but came up empty handed

I tried to get the copper washer at Orchand Supply (a fairly big hardware store) and they really didn't have anything close.

(rusty at parts.mbz.org will be able to get it easily)
