Door locks
Has anyone ever replaced the vacuum system with an electric (solenoid) type system? 85 300TDT. Or is this a waste of time?

Waste of time! You'll need to modify the lock cylinders, as those from later models contain electrical contacts. Be happy with the old style ones!

Locks:
Different slant.
Had Vipor alarm installed at Circuit City. Then took Porsche electric door selonoid? and installed with the vacume locks on drivers door. Had to make bracket. And wired into alarm. When you set alarm it pulls down and locks drivers door which in turn locks all other doors, gas door and trunk. Spent three day chasing a vacume leak. It was intermitten in passanger door. I love the locks. Hit the button and all is locked. Charlie Last edited by Charlie Mitchel; 02-12-2003 at 06:52 PM. |

Ah! I thought you were talking about retrofitting an electrically controlled vacuum locking pump from a 201/126/124 car! In that case, some extensive modifications would be necessary. However, retrofitting an electric solenoid in the driver's door is not hard at all. Basically you need one power door lock motor, and a keyless entry control module to control it and (if you so choose) flash the parking lights, horn chirp, etc.
If you want to make the parking lights flash while retaining use of the separate left/right standing light feature, you'll need to use relays. I posted the diagram a while back... |

DOOR LOCK
Greatings my fellow diesel burners
I have a 300 cd 1985 which i purcase through ebay and it had some problems. One of them i did not had the driver door key to lock the door and i had to come to a solution ( i live in Ny) so my choise it was to change the door handle and because i do not whant to cary 2 keys i had to put electric actuator on that door. At this moment i have 2 sistems working, vacum and electric. The instalation it is preaty easy, i had to open the door, change my handle, ajust back the vacum actuator( verry senstiv issue) and i instal an electric actuator on the metal rod which activate the look when you whant to open from inside. I atach this system to an alarm and bingo, my system work whith one electric actuator because my vacum is good. If you have problem whith the vacum you will have to instal one actuator to each door plus to the trunk. If you have problem you can email me at bxsega@yahoo.com and i will my best to help you. alarm:
In my post above. I used a Vipor alarm. They have a plug and wire set that come's with alarm for remote module. They also sell a door module. I use a Posche module. I had TO make the rod -clip that pulls lock down longer to connect to module.
This was on a 300CD. Charlie |

Ok
The actuator which i used i findet from a place which instal alarms and it cost me per pc. $25 and the alarm they instaled profesional for $100 with the part. The door instaling i do not let them to touch because it was more complicated then can handle, remember i had to change the handle and put everything back and good, in order for me to have vacum for the other doors and trunk( the driver door is the governant for all the doors, if you have problem with the vacum there it is a big problem for the rest of the doors) Before electric i had to open the doors from the pasanger side manualy, now with a click i have no problem In your case you have to put actuators in every doors plus the trunk and at the tank fueling door or to repair the vacum I hope i was clear , my english ............ |
