Need some advice plz

A friend of mine is trying to sell me a 1982 300sdl, he doesnt know anything about the car he bought a year ago from an old guys who has nt driven the car for about 4 years. The car has 123k on it . The interior is in mint condition . My question now is if I were to buy this car what should i look for, in terms of a major tune up what parts should i replace.I have never touch a diesel b4.If someone could give me instruction on what to look for b4 i buy this car i would really appreciate it . I have no records of this car but by looking at the engine I can tell it needs a major tune up the engine is filty but starts right away.

Someone give me a list of stuff to replace so i can do a complete tune up on this car thanks guys

If the car starts right up, then it should be a good car to buy. It will probally need the fuel filters changed, an oil and filte change, valves should be adjusted, and all the other fluids and filters should be changed also.

Certainly there is a " tune up " on these cars...
1. Set the valves
2. Change all filters and fluids
3. Check and set the start of fuel delivery
4. Run injector cleaner through the system, maybe twice .
5. Be sure you do not have algae in the fuel system. treat if necessary.
6. Check the chain elongation when you are setting the valves, if needed install offset key to bring up to snuff, if that will not do it... put in new chain and associated stuff where needed. ( rails ect.)

123c is right on the money here. There is no such thing as a "tune up" on these cars. Just keep the oil and filter changed frequently, keep up with fluids and filters and everything else is keeping an eye on things and repairing as necessary as with any car.

Good luck,

What is an 82 300SDL? Only the 300SD was offered in 1982.

Check the ACC. If that doesn't work and you're not the DIY type, it could cost a fortune to get it working properly.

Red face

16grand for an '82 300SD? Never heard of an SDL in 1982. Don't even think that they made one in 1992 (in case of a fingercheck).
