The Tootsie Roll is Saved!

A couple of months ago I posted my 1980 300SD for sale here on the Forum....things were pretty tough at my company (software) and sales were slim....looked like some things would have to change. I could never bring myself to actually put the car up for sale anywhere else and have been holding out. Long story short, I was offered a different position at work that doesn't rely on commissions (woohoo!) and they threw some cash my way.....thank god I didn't sell my car!!!! To celebrate, I ordered a new dash (ok, a new old dash) from John Marshall in WA and that will complete the interior restoration.

Thanks for all of your help over the last year....and the encouragement from some of you when it looked like my Tootsie Roll would have to go. Now I can keep sinking money into it like I have been.....:p :p

Long Live the 116s!!!!!!!!

Well congratulations!! It would have been a real shame to have to sell such a nice car. Keep going on the resto and make her perfect. RT

I've said it once i'll say it again. What a beauty. In black too, the 116 looks classy, elegant, grand, and simply a classic!

That's why I love this Forum....folks that appreciate class when they see it. And pay for it. And pay for it. And pay for it.....:p

Actually, I should be about done, which is what was killing me about giving it up. Now I'm ready to just spend money on some good wax and spit shine her. OK, after I replace the window regulators.

You got a black one, Holson? I love the brown (hence the Tootsie Roll) but black would be awesome.

Neah, I wish I had a 116 in any color as long as it's in good condition.

I didn't know it was brown, but doesn't matter what color it is. My comments still hold

Enjoy it

TClannton,

Great job on the 116. I love those old cars and if the software company that I work for could get out of the dumper, I might some day add one to the stable.

I'm envious of you getting out of sales. I have worked directly for software companies for fifteen years. When everything is going well, sales is the place to be, but right now is not one of those times.

I was drafted back into sales last July after enjoying the good life in Marketing for a few years. Just had my second base salary cut in two years beginning in January. Commissions are almost non existent. The company is hanging on by a thread.

Hope the company stays under you.

Good luck,

Holson, you are right, it does look black in the photo....guess I didn't realize it until you said it. Just DARK brown!

Good luck to you, too, Larry......I think it's just tough all over right now. We acquired a sister company last fall and that's where I've ended up spearheading a new department. If everything flies, it'll be great. If it doesn't, I'll be posting that "Car For Sale" ad again....
