Why can't we get this in NA?

very simple answer: waiting until ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel is nation-wide.

Those new MB CDI Diesels sound awsome but how many of us will be able to afford to buy one. And when they are10-15 years old and we can afford to buy them, how many of us will be able to afford to repair them? They don't sound like DYI projects.
Will the CDIs run on Biodiesel or SVO? I wonder how many of the new CDIs will go 500,000 miles like the old 116s did. I plan to stay with my 300SD/SDL for a while. P E H |

The dealer where I got my SLK said that they expect to see them in a year or two. I will believe it when I see it. I guess the business decision will be the same that the lucky amongst us made when they got the 1999 E300DT and every other Diesel before that.
That being bouncing the dollars against the longevity and comfort. We have all done it before...I am on my third W123. |

I agree with P.E. The added complexity of these new generation multi-valve, common rail diesel engines means nothing but problems for anybody but a factory trained MB technician. The whole point of our beloved IDI, mechanically injected diesel engines is thier inherent simplicity and over-engineered reliability. I for one am not looking forward to the new breed of electronically controlled, smog controlled, computer controlled diesel of the future. Just my .02......

OK, I'm strange but, it sure beats taking in stray cats...
I also agree with PEH. I don't see myself ever owning one of the new OMs or working on one either (of course, 15 years ago, I didn't see myself owning two MBZ).
My fantasy is to buy up every halfway decent 240 and 300 I can lay my hands on, store them and make running ones out of the dead ones. That way, when I'm forced lay my beloved Marlene or SWMBOs 300D to rest, I can take a car from my "inventory" so we'll still be able to travel in comfort, style and safety...at 25 mpg on used cooking oil. Regards to all, Randy Leo All hail the mighty W-123; the last, best place for an IDI diesel powerplant. |
