how to replace hand pump
Hi,
Im going on a semi-long trip tomorrow, and since I recently bought a new hand pump, I thought Id replace it (never had a problem that needed the old one, but once when I tried it, it leaked like crazy. I went under the hood to look at it, but I cant figure how to get it off. It looks like it is hexagonal at the bottom (the new one is), but nothing much fits down there. Any suggestions how to get the old one off? Thanks, JMH

It looks like a really short open wrench with a hole into which you insert a socket set extension.
It lets you use a ratchet or breaker bar without being right on top of the nut or bolt. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

Use a faucet wrench, if you dont have a crows foot, works great.

installation of new primer pump
I had the same problem on a the 300SD. No crow's foot and, possibly no space even if I did have one. The solution was to remove the rubber hose that is just to the right of the pump. It is held on with a small hose clamp. Beneath the hose is a hose nipple that is threaded into the housing of the pump. You can simply unthread this nipple with a socket. With the nipple out of the way, there is plenty of space to get a standard open end wrench on the wrench flats of the primer pump.
