Rear CV boots.
Hi-I just purchased a 1985 300 D Turbo. It runs and rides great. The rear CV boots are in need of replacement. In the Haynes manual it states that this job should be left to the dealer due to special tools. I have replaced CV boots before on a Toyota. Do you need any special tools for this job or any tricks to look out for?
Thanks in advance.

Try a search. Many have done it (actually half-shafts) and have posted some good how to's.

Mike - if you are a competent diy'er this is a pretty easy job.

rear cv bbots
Mike, I replaced the boots on my 82 300d several months ago with glue together replacements. Took less than an hour. The important thing is to keep new boots clean and free of grease. The boots are available at Parts Shop/ fastlane.

Mike,
I replaced one of my boots almost two years ago and it is still perfect. Pklarc is absolutely right about keeping it clean. Any oil or grease in the seam and the glue won't stick and the boot will leak like the one you replaced. I glued the boot together on the middle of the shaft and let it set overnight before pulling it over the CV joint. Also, I used several short lengths of thin wire wrapped in the boot creases to hold it tightly together while the glue hardened. It's much easier to glue that way and you know you're getting a good seal. LRG
