Speaking of cupholders, here's what I used.
$5 at your local Kragen, Autozone, Pep Boys etc
It ratchets to fit many different sizes, and in a W124 (without later type rolling top console cover) you don't even need to use screws - it fits THAT SNUGLY. Here's what it looks like: |

I usually just hold my coffee, or put it between my legs.. I bought one of those door mounted cup holders off ebay but couldn't bring myself to screw it to the door.

I have something similar to what speedy300Dturbo has, but it holds two cups and sits lengthwise in the tray. I think I got it at Wal-Mart. Mine doesn't fit snug but it has never spilled anything either. Much better than holding the cup, particularly since I have a manual transmission.

after seeing the cupholder on ebay i came up with this. it is bevelled in the front and it fits snugly without the use of any hardware, it can be easily stowed under the seat. please excuse the dirty carpet....future project.
