300SD(126) shift points

My 1983 always shifts through all the gears. Someone mentioned to me that on an easy start it should start in second gear and start in first gear if I take off with the pedal-to-the-metal.

If mine starts off in 1st and really should start in 2nd under most conditions just what should I start looking for to correct this condition?

Your car should start in 1st gear with any amount of throttle.
