Wetness....

Ok. Back seat area. Go to check for wetness (since many people with wet feet had sat back there) Thank god, the mats were very dry. But, I lift up the mats, and the little piece of carpeting from the middle hump in the back is SOPPING wet, and all the little channels in the metal had moisture on them. Why would it be doing this, and where could it be coming from? This has never happened...the mats weren't wet at all...only under them. I sealed up all areas where water could get in (or so I thought) Any ideas? This car is a love hate relationship. On another note, the front two seats of the car were dry as a bone.

Your water problem is most likely from the Back window seal leaking. This also causes alot of wet trunks. Chris

Well

Found out the two drains on the collars on the outside where the hood closes were plugged, as well as the battery drain being plugged. Cleaned both. Hopefully this will solve my problem. BTW...this summer interior of car was never wet even under terrential rain, and trunk only has a few drops of water.

BUMP

Could what I cleared out be causing the problem?

Check those two rubber boots that face down on the firewall. They are the drains for the grills just below the bottom of the windshield. They fill up with junk and won't let that area drain.

Kyle,
I had the same problem you did wth the water in the rear footwell. I cleared those drains but that didn't solve the problem completely. Turns out I had a rot spot near the driver's side hood hinge where a hole through the steel developed. I hadn't been very diligent about clearing up the leaves and debris that accumulate there and the excess moisture eventually led to rot. Take a flashlight and poke around with a long screw driver just to make sure that you don't have a more serious problem.

Yes. I had the same problem, but much worse (mats floating, water sloshing around; I called it "Lake Daimler")...cleaned out the underhood drains and it's now dry as a bone.

I seem to have quite a bit of dampness in my trunk after a rain. My rear window seal appears to be in perfect shape and my trunk seal is not so bad either. It's a California car with not a speck of rust anywhere on it, so then where could this water be coming from?

The best way to check the rear window seal and the trunk seal is to climb in the trunk with a flashlight and have someone squirt a hose on the rear window and trunk, while you search for water coming in.
Oh, and make sure it is someone you trust to let you back out once you have found the problem.
