You have certainly gotten your money's worth out of that car.... you have discovered the secret to these old MB's...now you will have some time to read the forum about what to look for... and which things cost the most to fix... and which models are prone to one thing or another.... Good luck....and post pics of your new one when you get it...We like having females participate on the board.... pretty unusual.....

Thank you! I guess I'm an unusual lady.

As I come across MB's for prospective purchase, I will certainly post the details here for the 'second opinion'.

I enjoy this site! It is great! You guys are great!

I went to Jiffy Lube once. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Took my '89 Volvo 740 Wagon before a trip to Vermont. They drained the Transmission not the motor oil. Then they overfilled the motor oil. When i started off after paying, there was a cloud of smoke out the exhaust. Took it right back. They said they used the wrong weight oil, drained the oil and replaced it with the right oil. (The trans was still empty!) Drove right to the highway and fried the transmission. I had to sit in the regional Jiffy Lube (Penzoil) office and told them to get the police to remove me before they agreed to fix the trans. This was done but the trans still gives me problems. I will NEVER go to Jiffy Lube again.

Joe.

Keeping with the oil theme: after my car wouldn't start at 8 degrees this winter, I changed to Rotella 10W40 SB (a synthetic blend) that is diesel rated. I didn't want 5W40 in the car as that is completely synthetic and I didn't need the leaks. Sure enough, the 10W40 started leaks I didn't have with 15W40, but it looks like after the second change, they've slowed down. I got the oil at a distributor here in Hartford for about $9 a gallon. I do plan on returning to a 15W40 in the spring but I'll probably stick with Shell Rotella so the additive package doesn't clash with another brand's.
