new compression no.s
Hello fellow diesel fans
I just got replacement parts for my new compression tester and redid compression test- valves all adjusted engine was warm- not hot 1. 315 lb 2. 310 3. 325 4. 340 5. 360 so all over 300lbs so that is good yes? Now what should I look for concerning really bad acceleration. I do have blow by- oily air cleaner I will replace the fuel filters tomorrow and I replaced the vacuum line booster today No throttle response- during warm up it will rev and then drop down to idle- foot still in the same place? suggestions - Idea's Please and thank you Peace

I am really surprised that you are suspecting blow by with such good compression test results.
I suspect that your problem has to do with the controls that use turbo boost to affect the injection pump. There is an aneroid adjustment that you should learn about. I suspect that you can get all the info you need by doing a search on aneroid adjustment. Good luck, |

LarryBible:
Thanks for the reply: I say i have blow by - this is my second compression- first was cold and the no. were in the 290's for the first 3 before my seal broke on my new compression tester ( From HANDS ON TOOLS- Star Hoffman- who replaced 2 parts free of charge shipped immediatly, works great now ) the second test I did yesterday as well as the one before I did thru the injectors - after pulling no 1 glow plug P I T A so I headed for the injectors - pulled the lines anyway and fuel loop lines needed replacing. Each of the injectors had plenty of oil on them- I am going to have injectors tested today as soon as I find a shop Thanks for the suggestion on the aneroid adjustment I will search have a great day peace:

Is that oil on the air filter on the inside ? It might be from a leaking diaphram on the vacuum pump.... the compression looks good....worth looking at...
Be sure you replace ALL the fuel filters.... you may have three.. and if any one is getting clogged it can cause this symptom... and do you have algae ? Be sure to get the clear filter for the one in the line near the engine so you can watch for little black specks in it.... then you can treat with Diesel Doctor or Biocide or whatever.... Check for slack or problems in your linkage also... can do some strange things as people have posted with stories before... This is in addition to what Larry suggested... If these things don't fix it then with such good compression , and assuming your timing and valves are set properly I think it will be time to start looking at the injectors and precombustion chamber condition... if stuff is blocking the holes in the precombustion chamber it will sure effect the speed and efficiency of the fuel burning which can sure affect power.... |

Make sure to pull the banjo bolt from the the rear of the intake and clean it. A line runs from there up to the crossover valve, which should be mounted on the firewall. Clean out that line also. Then check the crossover valve. It may be plugged as well. The crossover has a 12v connection that releases the pressuse in that line. If the crossover valve is plugged, then remove it (just two screws) and rig a 12v line to open the valve and clean it out so that air blows through both open and closed.
The line hooked to it continues from there to the aneroid. That can be a problem too, but first thing is to check to see if air pressure is being passed along that line to the aneroid. It is ofter plugged a long way up the line. The purpose of this is to send pressure to the aneroid when the turbo is running. The aneroid in turn causes the IP to run more fuel through the injectors. Without this working you get little power with the turbo boost. |
