wet rear floor on 78 300D!
 

After a hard rain the rear floor on my mothers 78 300D was soaking wet. I remember hearing about a drain or something...how can i solve this problem?

Scott - do a search. Look underneath the area where the hood hinges are and under the battery tray area to start. Is all this cleaned and does it look like it drains properly? A worn out rear window seal can cause this too.

Chances are 99 out of 100 that it is plugged drains under the hood hinges, master cylinder and battery tray just as Jim described.

Thanks for your quick replies...is there any trick to unclog the drains, do i just need to dig out all the mess...? Exactly where are these drains located, i know of the ones under the hinges...anymore?

The drains are located close to the firewall on both sides. It is the are where the hood hinge collapses into when closed. It is rare that they don't have some crap in them. I often use the narrow nozzle of a shop vac or vacuum cleaner to get the stuff out.

Once you think they are cleaned out, use a hose on a slow flow and see that the water proper exits instead of filling up the cavity. If it doesn't drain out, you'll need to use a long (12-16") tool (1/4" diameter) to *gently* push through the holes the rest of the build-up.

When functioning properly, the water going in should be the water going out freely.
