85+ rocks

I add about half abottle at fill-up. I definitely notice the power increase in addition to reduced smoke. Not too expensive either.

DFC

I use DFC religiously. Good stuff.

Do a search......I seem to recall a lengthly thread a while ago that concluded that the DFC and 85 were very similar if not exactly the same stuff.

It's ALWAYS a good idea to check with a dealer to find out which one's are recommended or NOT RECOMMENDED . . .

Redline, at one time was NOT RECOMMENDED as it sooted up Trap Oxidizers . . .

A few years back I called RedLine to ask which one I should use in my '85 California wagon. They told me that if you have the old trap oxidizer (which I did then) you must use 85+. DFC will clog the oxidizer. According to the person I spoke with the two have almost the same performance with DFC having a different formula (and slightly more effective) antismoke ingredient. They also said the the newer trap catalysts can use either formula but since the two are so similar I have stuck with 85+ to be on the safe side.

i just spoke with a redline tech guy and he said either 85+ or dfc is okay for a trap oxidizer. he said they was very little difference between the 2 products. he couldn't really tell me the difference. my local shop has 85+ so i guess thats what i'll use. thanks all.

Be aware that although they are frequently confused, there is a difference between a trap oxidizer and a trap catalyst (or just catalyst.) DFC may be OK for the catalyst but it is definitely NOT OK for the older oxidizer. The good news is that there shouldn't be any cars around at this point that still have the old trap oxidizer. The newer catalyst is designed to last for the life of the car and was a freebe retrofit at any MBZ dealer. The local dealer was adamant about not using ANY additive on oxidizer equipped cars (85+ was supposedly made to be safe and I used it for years before my catalyst retrofit) but allowed as how on the catalyst equipped cars it was OK to use "approved" additives. Mark300cd, in your case your car didn't have any trap (they started on '85 CA cars) so you should be safe to use either one.
