3L Tubo engine question

My friend Jim is:

Quote:
looking to upgrade (his) 2.4L Mercedes powered Series III Land Rover to a Mercedes 3.0L turbo but would need a rear sump oil pan to clear the front diff.

Did Mercedes ever do this with a 3.0L?

If not, can the existing oil pan be reveresed on the engine?

While I'm at it, can the standard-shift flywheel from a 2.4 be used on the 3.0? I've not seen too many standard 3.0s and if it's an internally balanced engine I would think the flywheel could be used.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Jim

How does the 3.0 litre fit in the G-Wagon? Is the drivetrain completely different?

Cool swap!!! I would like to eventually find a cheap rusted out MB with a 602 or 603 engine and put it in a cherokee. I would love an suv with a diesel that would be powerful and economical. The 603 would be great as it is about the same length as the 4.0 gas 6 that comes in the cherokees.

I have had, in my dark past, 4 series landrovers. one of them a diesel.
I would, not put into one of them the turbo engine. I would pull off the turbo of a turbocharged engine and use it naturally breathing....
there are piston lube jets on the turbo.
and the horsepower with the turbo will wipe out your clutch, transmission, ring and pinions, "U" joints, rear axles, and anything else that can move inturnally or externally. Not that I want to rain on your parade...............
as it is, your stock horsepower is about 65, and the non-turbo will be around 85.
As it is, I have broken rear and front ring gears, 4 times, axles, 6 times, clutch covers, and worn out disks 3 times...
Ya think a fellow would learn!!
On the plus side, you will pick up 400 rpm, up to 4400 for the turbo engine.
vs. 4000 for the landrover diesel.
Good luck!
Dan.

Jeez, I wonder how the Rovers stand up when GM 6.2-6.5 diesels are swapped in??? I know it has been done but it doesn't sound safe... RT
