I have located a gorgeous 86 SDL with 160K miles for sale. It is a Daimler-Benz Special Edition (cosmetic; special grill and woodwork). 100 of these issued in the states. This thing is in near immaculate condition. Will sell for $8K. I don't have the cash, but if anyone is interested, drop me a line - soon. I don't think this one will last.

Special Edition? I have never heard of that.. do you have any pictures? Is this car for sale by your guy in Basking Ridge?

I just reviewed my spec sheets for the 126 diesel and do not show any special edition being built...ever. Please clarify.

This is the original owner. He's in Scotch Plains. The car is advertised in yesterday's Star Ledger. I will have to check the VIN with the dealer. It sounds as if this is an 87 and not an 86. It is definitely the Special Edition model.

It must be some stuff a dealer prepped the car with. Let us know when you find out.

OK, i'm going to make run at buying this car. It is the one we have been looking for, so I am going to see if I can swing it. Won't be sure for a day or two. CJ, I think you are right and this package is probably a dealer installation. The grill is that of the 500SEL (I think) the wood trim is mahogany and the gearshift (looks like Zebrano) has a D-B inlay. More later...
