240d niggles
I have a 123 series 240TD estate (1984) previously a 230TE
My main worry is the auto box which slirrs when changing gear, in all gears as far as I can remember, I dont know when the filter and fluid was last replaced. Could it be the vacum adjustment, if so is this a DIY job? There is also a strong smell of burnt diesel whilst the car is being driven, only noticeable when the windows are open, not a problem in the current British climate but will be soon! Will be gratefull for any opinions on, remedies for the above |

Virtually no one on this side of the pond knows anything about a 240td since they they were never imported here. However, the shift on a 300td of that same vintage can be adjusted at the vacuum modulator. Do a search on it and you will find instructions. The slipping will be called 'flaring' on this forum.

In addition to the vacuum modulator itself, I expect that you will find a contraption on top of the valve cover that uses vacuum switches and a cam to simulate the vacuum charecteristics of a gas engine. As said earlier, we don't see this model in the US, but I expect that your car will have this contraption.
There are several postings here with links to lengthy articles telling how to test it and set it up properly. Best of luck, |
