Oily engine front
The other day while changing the oil I noticed that the front of the engine block was caked with grease/oil. The power steering fluid was low(about 3 ounces) I checked it 2 month's ago and it was fine. The leak appears to be coming from the vacuum pump gasket; as that is where it is the 'wettest' looking.

I use the car wash to clean the engine then you can get in an see where the oil is coming from. Everyone has their theory on cleaning engines so what ever way you like, but i will bet cleaning the engine would be the first step. Lots of comments on engine de greasing in the archives so take your choice. :D |
Stevo is right. Isolate the leak and then proceed. if is the gasket around the vacuum pump you may have just a loose mount bolt there.
I had a major leak on my 240 develop when a mount bolt on the power steering bracket came out. Turns out that some engineer has the bolt hole entering a oil passage in the block! |
