Injector socket?

Does anyone know of an inexpensive source for the deep socket to remove an injector? My local fuel injection shop says that a conventional deep socket will mess up the injector and he won't take one like this as a core. Some of the searches I have performed say to remove the valve cover and use a conventional wrench. Any opinions on this versus using the right tool?

Thanks

ive always employed a conventional deep socket of appropriate size to remove my injectors with no problems encountered.i have a 1980 300sd with 5cyl 617 engine.the injectors on the 603 engine or later may be different though

Thanks, guys. The guy at the injector shop is the one who got me started on this. He claims that a regular deep socket will bend the top of the injector. He said if it is bent in the slightest, he won't give me my core charge back. I've got a buddy checking with the Snap-On truck to see if there is in fact any special tool.
Jackie Cooper Mercedes(local dealer) claims that they use a 1-1/16" thinwall deep socket. Just as I am feeling better, the service manager says,"Well, it does bend them up a bit, but, you know.........). Injector core charge=$25. Fancy socket from Snap-On =$40-$50. But I am sure that I would use it again. Sounds to me like I could be really careful not to put any downward pressure on the plain deep socket that TXBill suggests; maybe I could get it out without marking it.

Seems I use a 1 & 1/16 deep cheapy and remember something about some being to thick or something like that, anyway the one I have works.:D

The Sears Deep Socket works fine....$8

Thanks, guys. I'm off to Sears. My wife wonders how I can spend a couple of hours in the tool department.

My 603 car's injectors took a deep-well 27mm socket...no problems whatsoever.

Good luck!

The one I got at Home Depot fits over more of the 603 injectors than the one I got at Sears. Cheaper too.

What part of an injector bends? The return line nipples?
