felt door trim
 

Hi,

The felt or velour trim on the body side edges of the door openings is coming out in a few areas. It seems that it was somehow forced in, around a rubber tube into a crack, but when I try this, the old cloth feels like it is about to rip and give, making it look ugly instead of just falling down in a 6 in long area.

Any ideas how to get the trim back in and up how it is suppsed to be, so it is tight? Im worried that the 'falling out' area will grow and eventually be the whole door...

I believe there are clips in the ridge.

If you pull on the rubber tubing gently it should come at least part way loose (or did on my car). I then applied a thin coat of (this is for leathermang) Barge Cement to the outside surface of the rubber. I then took a dull plastic putty knife and pushed the fabric back into the crease between the rubber and the body of the car.

It has worked so far but it has only been a few months so I wouldn't swear by it.

Easier to just buy a new piece. They are around $10 or so. It's called a "seal rail". You remove the pillar cover and pull the old one off. The new one has adhesive backing on it already.

I used the basically the same technique as Fisherman, except I used a wide blade plastic spatula to push the fabric back into the crease between the rubber and the body of the car and no adhesive. Its been three months, no reocurrence yet.

What you're referring to is WIND-LACE.

CAREFULLY pull it off with your FINGERS . . .

WALK your fingers one after another PINCHING the groove closed . . .

PRESS back on with your PALM . . .
