i dug out the relay it's a bosch - mb part no. 002 545 06 32

i replaced it with interchangeable part no 001 545 98 32
(list price 151.58 -

but it turned out i did really need to as something else was wrong at the time (bad battery). that was way before i found this site..

I just brought home a $500 '76 (115) 240D and the glow plugs weren't working. 3 of the 4 tested good, so local mechanic gave me the montana solution (quite common up here, especially in winter). He ran direct from battery to installed pushbutton that he put under dash. I'm waiting for the 4th glowplug, but it definitely starts much better these days!!!

I thought about routing a wire straight from the battery to the plugs for a just in case rig, but haven't been able to find a good looking switch that could handle 80amp. Oh, and I haven't seen an 80amp inline fuse either. Sounds like a great safety precaution though. Regarding my problem, turns out it was my glow relay. Thanks.

I'll give you a call about that relay of your's. I think I'll take it. Although, I have no problems with getting my own if you'd like to keep it as a spare.

NAPA sells a push-button switch which does seem to handle the amperage, however, my mechanic was out of a choice of wire and put in a thinner gauge than should have. Have to depress 15 - 20 seconds to insure start with small gauge wire.
