replacment diaphrams for vaccuum locks on w123

Hello,
does anyone know where to get diaphram kits ?
my mechanic showed me a set, but when we called M-B we were told that they were no longer sold and that you had to buy the entire actuator. (~$30.00) Even Tom Hanson says that you must buy the whole unit. The car is a 1985 300td, and the locks no longer lock centrally. This is ok, but the leaking unit is taking the system down somewhat, affecting shifting, turbo wastegate too I think. Anybody ever heard of these kits??
thank you

He has a company called Performance Analysis Company. He also sells ACC blower brushes. He will send you a catalog of his stuff also.

Vacuum repairs

TJM,

Do a search on the vacuum repairs. Some where I've seen a thread where the threadee used condoms to over lay the original vacuum diaphram and it worked. Mind you, you could always replace the newer ones with the older models that had replaceable rubber parts and they are available from Capitol West on the intenet for about five dollars each. While I've never purchased one, condoms have to be cheaper than buying the whole unit!

i have some of the old style "round" diaphrams for the older cars, but yours should have the sealed plastic actuators, which are non servicable. pm me if you want these i have

Thank you all. Good information!
I read somewhere that before you close up the door, when replacing the vaccuum element, coat it with some silicone lub to help it live longer. Has anybody else heard this?
thanks again

I tried the compuserve address in the postings above, the message was returned.
Is there a new address?
thank you

Using both a diaphragm and a condom seems like overkill to me.

Yes, using silicon lub will prolong the life of the vacuum element.
It will prevent the rubber parts from drying up, causing cracks.
