300 CD "loose" window chrome trim?

Anyone else have this problem?

On my '83 300CD, there's a BIG chrome piece of trim along the length of the window channel on the front doors...it tends to work itself loose if the window glass rubs against it as the window is raised or lowered.

Anyone else experience this? Any "solutions"?

300cd I don't know, 300d been bery good to me. I will assume that we are talking about outside chrome trim and that the 1983 300cd uses the same attachment system as the 1984 300d. The chrome strip, and the window skweegee are both attached to the door skin by the same devilishly clever body clips. THere are four such clips on a 300d door,likely more on a 300cd.
The clips are sort of "W" shaped with the chrome strip and the window skweegee fitting down in the sides of the "W" and the door skin fitting up in the centre of the "W". Something is causing a loss of grip in the clip. This could be caused by rust or oil in which case a cleaning may be in order. Or it may be that the clip has lost some of its crimp. THe crimp can sometimes be increased by squeezing with pliers otherwise the clip should be replaced either with new or from a Borg yard. Good Luck

So how does one get the chrome strip off to replace the "w" clips. Trim like that is usually pretty delicate, and I'm sure Jim doesn't want to try and locate new trim for a CD!

When I removed my chrome it was a simple hammer and wood block job. Angle the edge of the wood block under the chrome strip and gently tap up with a hammer or mallet. Continue tapping and move the wood back and forth along the chrome strip until the strip is completely detached along its full length. This will limit the amount of bending in the chrome strip.
