603 Turbo Rebuilders
Does anyone have a recommendation for a turbo rebuilder? The turbo on my 603 is only putting out approx 4 psi boost. All other possible causes of low boost have been eliminated.
Thanks, ewstan |

Have you tried to adjust the wastgate spring?
I found a rebuilder online, but they wanted $950. Performance Products has rebuilt units between $660 and $780 depending on year. Wait for the 15% off sale Craig

Wray,
A friend of mine used Forced Performance and said they really knew their stuff. He had them make a custom turbo for his VW TDI. Brian

Look in the phone book for diesel injection service places, they will all rebuild turbos. I did my Volvo 740's a few years back for $450, with express shipping for the parts.

Turbo rebuilder recommendation
I had a turbo rebuilt after my 300D started using oil from the leaky bearings. I am very pleased with Majestic Turbo, they even sent the housing to a metal coating (powder coat?) outfit to have it "painted" (mind you that regular paint would never last long at the temps Turbos operate at) and its rsut free some 1+ years later. I really am happy about the appearance. I hate to see a rusty ANYTHING under the hood, especially my Turbo!
Their web site has a nice assembly view of the Garrett T3 (?) turbo that many 300D/TD/SD used, and is worth looking at even if you don;t need their rebuilding services. http://www.majesticturbo.com/ Good luck! Dieseldiehard |

Pardon my dumb question. The website obviously goes to the Waco company.

If it's not leaking, making noise, or vibrating I dobt it needs to be rebuilt. Double check the fittings and hoses, then try adjusting the waste gate, they seldom give problems and even a bad one still works pretty good.

Yes, the MajesticTurbo I used is in Waco.
I agree about not rebuildng unless its making noise or leaking badly. The rebuilt unit is great, but I believe the spool-up time is a little slower than when it had loose, leaky bearings. Or maybe that is something else related to the engine rebuild. Dieseldiehard |
