What are signs of bad engine shocks?
Lately I have been hearing a rythmic sound like a shock absorber compressing repeatedly from the air cleaner side of the OM617A engine.
Along with that I have also felt that the engine vibrates a little harsher than usual (The engine mounts were done last year) - this could just be my imaginations though just because I have been driving really smooth cars... Do you guys think it is the engine shocks? What are the symptoms of bad engine shocks anyway? Thanks -Holson-

Take it off and see if it is real easy to compress/decompress. If it is then replace it. May or may not see leakage.

USUALLY the MOTOR MOUNTS COLLAPSE and TELEGRAPH engine noise into the cross member . . . because the SHOCK is FULLY COLLAPSED . . .

I think I was being over sensitive. I put in a can full of Diesel Hi-Test and somehow the car idled soo smooth and it ran really well. Oh well....

I believe the engine shocks are mainly to address the sudden rocking you get at shutoff but otherwise don't do much. Yours may still be bad but I don't think you'd notice any difference in idle smoothness if you replaced them.
