Can a siezed brake caliper be rebuilt? 83 240D
 

I pulled my 83 240D Bendix Brake Caliper today. The outside piston is stuck in place and I couldn’t pump it out when I removed the pads and applied brake pressure,.
I have two questions:
1. Can this Caliper be rebuilt?
2. Could I interchange two 82 240D ATI calipers I found at a junkyard and are rebuildable?

Let me say,

Generally, the Bendix calipers were inferior to the ATE's. Yes, you can get a stuck piston out, if things clean up nicely-or you only need a new piston- then rebuild them.

Since you have ATE's- I'd rebuild them first and throw the others away.

The Adsit catalog (www.adsit.com) says the
same part fits all 123 chassis 77-85, if you are
talking about the front. There rear has the
same year interchangability with the part
for the wagon being different than the one
for the sedan and coupe. The price (new)
for the front is $159 and the rear one is
$139. I am quite sure a search on the net
and ebay will find one for much cheaper.
I would rather buy new than rebuild for
peace of mind. It is a stressful day if it
freezes shut and you have to bleed and
pry the caliper then drive home with brakes
only on 2 or 3 wheels and replace the
rotor due to overheating.
