A 5 cyl non turbo 3 ltr diesel

where would i find the code for the engine in my 500 sel which was converted to diesel?

it is a 3 ltr 5 cyl without a turbo

also, was this engine standard in the S class in the US.

thanks

The engine serial number is near the rear of the engine on the drivers side just below the cylinder head.

Good luck,

Wow! A non-turbo in an SEL body. Just how slow is it? Did they do a clean job of the swap? (any pictures?)

heywood970 03-20-2003 03:11 PM

Slow?

It is sloooooooooow to get to 50mph but it a happy camper at 70 mph all day.

I like it becasue it forces good habits from me, like i really have to plan to overtake instead of just pulling out like I sometimes do when driving other stuff.

They (MB specialist Terry Jackson) did a mint job on the conversion (this was a std jod in Ireland where gas is $1 per litre)

I do not have pictures on my work pc but will post them later from home

Look forward to seeing them:)

The S-class in the US only got the turbo version. Only the SWB S-class at that.

Does your 500SEL have leveling rear suspension?

yep

Is the leveling suspension driven off a pump at the front of the head or did Mr. Jackson transfer the pump from V8?

Isn't Terry Jackson the name on the cutaway drawings on the cover of Haynes manuals?

Or maybe they used a wagon engine...

heywood970 03-21-2003 01:28 PM

sixto, the former wrt the pump. seems to work fine

there is a question for you

Do you know that the black box (4 inches by 6) under the "plastic flap" in the front passangers footwell is for, or has my car been fit with some 1980 homing device

Starting on journey merceds knowledge, so forgive the rookie question

I did mean a wagon engine but outside the US 123 sedans were available with leveling rear suspension.

In my SDL and SE the brains of the alarm are in that cavity. It's more silver than black and has Becker markings.

Come to think of it, my SE came with a non factory mobile phone unit under that panel as well. Since discarded.

Could be an amplifier for an after market stereo.

Does it start ticking when you open the door? If it does, it's the same black box that I've been asking around what the heck it is, and so far no answer:confused: :D
