Lope at idle..

What exactly is a "lope" at idle? I hear this often...Is this an "uneven" idle?

That's what I'd refer it to. Kind of like the throttle is being slightly opened and closed a bit over and over.

I think of it as a very low frequency vibration. Like one pulse per second. Very even.

What causes it????

What is generally the cause of such a lope? My 300SD does it sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be about a 60/40 does to doesn't ratio.

If it lopes after a hard freeway run it can usually be fixed or toned down by replacing the rack damper pin.

It happens on my SDL that doesn' t have a replaceable rack damper pin. Maybe that function is controlled electronically and the ELR unit isn't up to snuff.
