Modulator Leaking???
Hey fellaz,
Just had my tranny repaired and after i drove out from the shop and drove for a few days shifts were a bit too harsh for my taste so i decided to give a slight touch to the modulator turning it clockwise to soften shifts. As i did this the shifts were perfect for my taste with no flaring in any driving condition. But 2 days after 2 to 3rd and 3rd to 4th shifting became shifted at higher revs than usual. Finally yesterday the car shifted all gears at max rpm even if i use the gas pedal very slowly. Also, what i have discovered is that when i shift in reverse or in drive i hear an air or liquid leak from the bottom of the car where the transmission is it is not loud and it can be heard when the door is open. I tried driving the car with the door open and the leak disapears as soon as it passes 3000 rpm Any idea if its the modulator or some hose that leaks or is it from the modulator at all?? |

Take it back to the shop that did the work.

Get a MityVac and build vacuum on the line, it should be able to hold vacuum for a number of minutes. I had a cracked modulator cap cover and it caused me to have a slight leak, new cover, no leak.

Hi there,
Just got under the car today It does not appear to be a vac leak because It is louder and its coming from the torque converter When the car is shifted in to N the noise disapears otherwise the noise is there even though the car is rolling Could it be a faulty primary pump in the tranny Unfortunately i cannot take it to the shop where they did the work the guy there did not want to give me guarantee because i told him to repair my current tranny and i didnt want a rebuilt one |

Just went under the car again
Took off the modulator vac hose Test drove.. car shifts like it suppose to now whats wrong???? As soon as i put the modulator hose back Car shifts all gears at redline no matter the amount of gas and it starts from a stop in 1st gear which is very unusual |

Kind of unrelated but does a 190 shift smoother without vacuum than with?
My 123 is just the opposite. The more the vac the smoother the shifts. I caught this ealrier in this thread when you adjusted the modulator control clockwise to make the shifts smoother. Again just the opposite of mine... Sorry I can't help with your actual question...

No what i meant to say now is that before (earlier this afternoon)
With no vacuum it shifts normally, little harsh but (on a stop sign) starts at 2nd at 40 shifts in 3rd 55 in 4th .. thats how its suppose to be.. now with the vac line plugged in (on a stop sign) shifts 2nd at 40 3rd at 70 4th at 110 and so on .. so you see the big difference now??? I drove the car to my garage 20 km farther and replaced the vac line from the modulator to the IP and now the car shifts every gear in redline just like if i gunned it to the metal but im not I have no idea what to do what can be causing this???? Tried sucking air on the line which leads to the modulator and it seems there is no leak. |
