Bad shock?
See any oil leaking from the shock anywhere? Otherwise...worn ball joints? Loose brake hardware? Broken spring?

Right wheel rattles and bounces when going over bumps
When I go over a bump, or minor pothole, my right front wheel bounces and rattles. This happens weather I hit the bump/hole with my right or left wheel.
I've crawled under my car and tried shaking and yanking on things, but nothing seems to move. Any ideas as to what's wrong? 1981 Mercedes 300D |

Guide rod subframe mounts, maybe? This is if the whole assembly's moving with the tire...if the tire/wheel and brake disc are moving separately, one thought would be the nut that's holding the wheel bearings in...maybe it got loose.
Just some thoughts...good luck!

It feels like the whole wheel shudders violently, transmitting the vibrations to the steering wheel. I can feel the car has less control and doesn't want to drive quite straight when the wheel is bouncing around. Everything feels tight and is dry. I did notice that one of the rubber grease holders is split, but everything feels firm when I yank on it.

I would think a bad shock. If the tire is bouncing the the shock is not doing its job.
Also check you steering linkage. If you have a bad tie rod end it will allow some sloppy movement of the steering assembly. With a torn boot You may be transfering the vibration to the tie rod ends and damaging them. Its probably the shock. But the shock problem may have caused damage to other parts. Dave
